Cristina Basso

Cristina Basso graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1990 and is Full Professor of Pathological Anatomy at the University of Padua. Former Vice-Rector for International Relations, since September 2025 she is Head of the Department of Cardiac-Thoracic-Vascular Sciences and Public Health. She is also Director of the Cardiovascular Pathology Unit at the University Hospital of Padua and of the Veneto Region Registry of Cardio-Cerebro-Vascular Pathology.

Cardiologist, Pathologist, and PhD in Cardiological Sciences, is the Director of the Advanced Master in Cardiovascular Pathology at the University of Padua since 2013 and supervises medical and PhD students.

Her research focuses on sudden cardiac death, cardiomyopathies, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, conduction system pathology, cardiac tumors, and valvular diseases. She coordinates regional and international collaborations involving pathology, interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, and forensic medicine, particularly in the fields of endomyocardial biopsies and sudden death.

Internationally recognized for her scientific and organizational contributions, she served as President of the Society for Cardiovascular Pathology (SCVP, USA) and is Past President of the Association for European Cardiovascular Pathology (AECVP).
