Dr. Antigoni Miliou, BSc, MSc, PhD, received her BSc from the University of London (UCL) in 1996, in the field of Human Genetics and Biometrics and her postgraduate degree (MSc) from the Royal Postgraduate Medical School (RPMS), University of London in the field of Human Reproductive Genetics in 1997. In 2005 she received her doctorate from the Medical School of the University of Athens in the field of Cardiology genetics.
Served as a Visiting Research Fellow at St. George’s Hospital, University of London, Cardiological Sciences Dpt. with a direct involvement in the discovery of the Naxos gene, thus setting the beginning of finding all the genes responsible for arrhythmogenic hereditary diseases so far. She holds the title of Research Teaching Staff A’ at the Medical School of Athens, University of Athens; at the same time, she is Head of the Unit of Biochemistry, Immunology and Molecular Biology of the First University Cardiology Clinic, Medical School of Athens, University of Athens. She is also chief clinical geneticist at the Cardiogenetics and Sport Cardiology Unit of the First University Cardiology Clinic, Medical School of Athens.
Her main scientific interests are (i) the emergence and development of biomarkers of cardiovascular disease and (ii) genetic cardiomyopathies and inherited arrhythmogenic diseases. She has published 60 papers in internationally recognized journals, 2 chapters in Cardiology books and her research work has been presented at all major cardiology conferences (ACC, AHA, ESC) since 2008.
