Katerina K. Naka

Professor Katerina K. Naka, MD, PhD(UK), FESC, was born in Ioannina, Greece and graduated with distinction from the University of Ioannina Medical School. She accomplished her PhD at University of Wales College of Medicine on the role of arterial stiffness in acute physical exercise in healthy subjects and heart failure patients, in 2003. She is fully trained in Cardiology and has been working in the Second Department of Cardiology, Faculty of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, University of Ioannina since 2006. She is currently a professor with full-time clinical duties in Ioannina University Hospital and Head of the Heart Failure Unit. She is heavily involved with pre- and post-graduate teaching and is currently the Chair of Pre-Graduate Studies in the local Medical School and a Board member of the European Exam on Core Cardiology (EECC) and Chair of the Selection Committee. She has published ca. 190 papers with >11,000 citations and an h-index of 49 (May 2026). Her research interests include heart failure, cardiomyopathies, atherosclerosis and prevention, non-invasive and invasive imaging, transcatheter valvular interventions, cardio-oncology and biomedical engineering. She is currently the President of the Heart Failure Working Group of the Hellenic Cardiac Society (2026-28).
